IT Specialist

The position of IT Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert for systems used within ECS Solutions operation and for systems implemented on customer projects.

This position requires a very responsive and highly productive professional who can work with numerous technical employees and vendors to ensure continued success.

IT Specialist Responsibilities

Support for systems used by ECS Solutions staff:

  • Consult with internal staff on any information technology issues that arise and recommend potential solutions or efficiency improvements
  • Assess infrastructure on a regular basis to ensure it continues to meet necessary demands; offer suggestions for possible technological upgrades and changes
  • Identify and recommend needed supplies, hardware and software and accessories
  • Provide technical support to employees including several remote offices in multiple locations as well as contractors and vendors
  • Install, configure, service, repair and maintain in-house information technology systems hardware and software for virtual computers, network services, storage devices, servers, client computers and other infrastructure equipment
  • Oversee the installation of new hardware and software upgrades as well as software applications; train new and existing employees on their use; prepare reference for users by writing operating instructions
  • Support and maintain user account information including rights, security and systems groups.
  • Administer operating systems software, company databases and other application software
  • Document and report daily work assignments
  • Maintain historical records by documenting system changes and revisions
  • Manage time to meet schedule targets; develop plans for short-term work activities; explain complex issues and work to establish consensus

Participate on project teams to implement customer solutions:

  • Coordinate between the company and external clients, vendors and contractors regarding IT-related infrastructure and development
  • Evaluate customer information system problems through technical research
  • Recommend and develop new innovative IT strategies and procedures to ensure client manufacturing operation management systems hardware and software is efficient and fully operational
  • Integrate multiple information systems in a networked environment
  • Use best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services provided to customers
  • Protect company and customer data from outside infiltration through encryption, secure data storage and other necessary means
  • Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information

IT Specialist Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Career Development

  • Ongoing efforts are required to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Formal education resulting in a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • Industry certifications (MCSE and others) and memberships a plus

Work experience

  • Two years in the design, installation, testing, modification, and maintenance of local area networks, client-server hardware and applications software
  • IT experience in manufacturing and industrial settings preferred
  • Proven track record of maintaining IT structural integrity

Work Environment

  • Normal demands associated with an office environment.
  • Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face
  • Customer work involves work on systems in controlled rooms as well as in manufacturing plant settings
  • Some travel is required
